Monitoring of Algal Growth Using their Intrinsic Properties

چکیده

The increasing cost of fuel, as well as the impact of climate change, has dramatically increased the interest in alternative fuel sources. Biofuel production from algae is an area of keen on-going research. A key element in this research involves monitoring algal growth under a variety of conditions over time. Here we describe the use of the SynergyTM H4 Multi-Mode Microplate Reader to monitor different algal strains using either light scattering (turbidity) properties of algae in solution or fluorescence excitation of algal chlorophyll. Metal ions binding study on human growth hormone by isothermal titration calorimetric method

The interaction of hGH with some metal ions ( ) at 27°C in NaC1 solution, 50 mM was studied using Isothermal titration calorimetry. There is a set of three identical and non-interacting binding sites for binding of all these metal ions, expect . The intrinsic association equilibrium constants () are not very different for  and , and also their molar enthalpies of binding (KJ/mol for  and  KJ/mo...

Effects of the surface physico-chemical properties and the surface textures on the initial colonization and the attached growth in algal biofilm

BACKGROUND Algal biofilm reactors represent a promising cultivation system that can economically produce biomass without the need for expensive harvesting operations. A critical component of algal biofilm systems is the material used for attachment. This research reports a comprehensive study of the effects of material surface physico-chemical properties, the surface texture, and their interact...

Differences in life history characteristics between two sibling species in Brachionus calyciflorus complex from tropical shallow lakes

The studies of differences in life history and suitability of both water temperatures and trophic levels among rotifer sibling species improve our understanding of speciation, sibling species coexistence and possible niche differentiation over space and time, and consequences for the functioning of ecosystems induced by climate change and eutrophication. We collected Brachionus calyciflorus fro...

Algal treatment of a mixture of urban wastewater and Vinasse using Spirulina platensis microalgae

Background and Objective: Algal wastewater treatment is a new and economic technology to remove and recycle nutrients from wastewater. In order to investigate the effect of vinasse on microalgae growth and also the effect of its growth on nitrogen and phosphate removal in a mixture of urban wastewater and vinasse, the growth of Spirulina platensis was studied. Materials and Methods: Growth abi...

Effects of copper oxide nanoparticles on the growth of Chlorella vulgaris

The increase of copper oxide nanoparticle (CuO-NP) utilization in industry during recent years has resulted in their entry into aquatic ecosystems. In light of this fact, we have studied the toxicity of CuO-NPs at various concentrations on Chlorella vulgaris using an algal growth inhibition test (OECD201). Chlorella vulgaris was grown in positive Zander (Z-8 + N) media in a growth chamber. Afte...
